The launch of Project PRAYAS

Project PRAYAS (Promoting Regular & Assisted Migration for Youth and Skilled Professionals) was launched on 21st december, 2023 at New Delhi to assist the migration.

More about News: 

  • This International Organisation for Migration (IOM) Development Fund assisted Project envisages development of a roadmap for improved coordination between Central and State Governments to encourage sharing of best practices between States and enhanced engagement with the MEA on matters related to the international migration cycle. 
    • The project is a joint collaboration between the IOM India and Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA).
    • IOM is a UN agency dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration. It was established in 1951.
  • Project PRAYAS not only aligns with Government of India's priorities for the promotion of safe and orderly migration, but also aligns with Goal 10.7 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to facilitate orderly, safe, regular, and responsible migration and mobility of people. 
  • The project also adheres to the objectives of Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) and the Migration Governance Framework (MiGOF).

The project aims to achieve this goal through several means:

  • Policy Recommendations: Providing policy recommendations to the MEA and state governments to improve coordination and governance related to international migration practices.
  • Strengthening Coordination: Enhancing coordination between state and central governments concerning international migration practices to ensure better management and regulation.
  • Understanding Migration Trends: Undertaking studies to capture key migration trends, understand the needs and aspirations of migrants, and analyze international migration and mobility initiatives taken by the central and state governments.
  • Awareness and Initiatives: Launching initiatives aimed at increasing awareness among aspiring migrants about safe, orderly, and regular migration processes. 
    • This includes disseminating information and education about the procedures and opportunities available for safe migration.
  • Sharing Best Practices: Encouraging the sharing of good practices between different states and facilitating engagement between state governments and the MEA on matters related to the international migration cycle.

Conclusion: 

Project PRAYAS intends to create a comprehensive framework that supports and facilitates the migration of Indian workers and students in a secure, organized, and systematic manner while addressing their needs and aspirations.
