About the Kaji Nemu:

  • This variety is a lot juicier than other lemon varieties. Kaji Nemu is majorly used in culinary and commercial purposes, and it is extensively used for its medicinal properties as it has proven flavour and health benefits.
  • It is rich in Citric acid, Malic acid, Sucrose, reducing sugars, Fats and essential oils, Glucocides, Pectines, Vitamin-C, Vitamin-E, Vitamin-B6, also contributes to cholesterol reduction.
  • Assam lemon is cultivated in more than 15,000 hectares with an average annual production exceeding 1 lakh metric tonnes.
  • Assam has as many as 16 species and 52 varieties hybrids of citrus. Kaji Nemu, grown in almost all the districts of the state, is available throughout the year.
  • Buoyed by the success of this lemon variety business abroad, Assam’s Directorate of Horticulture and Food Processing had launched a Kaji Nemu trade promotional programme in 4 major cities: Delhi NCR, Pune, Mumbai and Bengaluru last year. Forty marketing experts were engaged in Delhi, Mumbai and Pune for the promotion of the fruit.
