Bodo, also spelled as Bodo, is a Sino-Tibetan language spoken primarily by the Boro people of Northeast India, Bengal, and Nepal. It is the one of the 22nd languages listed in the 8th schedule of the Indian Constitution, it is also the official language of the state of Assam, and the Bodo and Indian territorial region. Since 1975 the language has been written in Devanagari script. It was formerly written using Latin, and Eastern-Nagari scripts. Also, It is reported that the Boro and the Dimasa languages used a script called Deodhai that is no longer attested.

3. Morphology : Gender, Case and Case endings, Plural suffix, Definitives, Verbal suffix.
4. Vocabulary and its sources.
5. Syntax : Types of sentences, Word Order.
6. History of scripts used in writing Bodo Language since inception.
Section B
History of Bodo Literature
- General introduction of Bodo folk Literature.
- Contribution of the Missionaries.
- Periodization of Bodo Literature.
- Critical analysis of different genre (Poetry, Novel, Short Story and Drama).
- Translation Literature.
Paper II
The paper will require first-hand reading of the texts prescribed and will be designed to test the critical ability of the candidates.

Prepare a study plan
- Make a monthly, weekly, and daily plan based on the number of hours you have in a day to devote to preparation.
- Stick to this plan modifying it when needed.
- Usually, it takes around 3-4 months to complete the optional subjects so use this time wisely.

Who can go for the Bodo language paper for IAS Exam?
Bodo is one of the optional in the UPSC IAS main exam. As an optional subject, candidates can opt for the Bodo language if they have graduated in the literature of Bodo language as the main subject. It is highly recommended for people who are good at the language. The syllabus is more or less static and limited.
If the candidate is creative and has a good conceptual understanding of the subject this optional is good for them. Good writing skill is also required.
Preparation tips for candidates
- Clear the basic concepts of the Bodo language to handle paper 2.
- Every language demands good writing skills, so don’t forget to work on it.
- Attempt the essay question at least with at least 40 minutes to spare. Write it in a simple and effective language. Write the essay after winding up the other sections. so, candidates write and elaborate the essay accordingly, without wasting time.
Developing a reading habit of newspapers of the Bodo language, at least 15-20 minutes every day improves writing skills and gives students the awareness of the recent and modern writing patterns of their language and vocabulary.
