What could be the Power of right mindset during the last month preparation for UPSC CSE Prelims?

It becomes necessary to talk about “Last month tips” now that UPSC CSE prelims 2020 is just around the corner.

Though there are many important tips like how to go about revision, re-revision, test solving, not reading new material, preparing stationery checklist for exam, etc. but in today’s write-up I’d like to address the psychological aspect of the last month preparation period for UPSC CSE exam or any other exam for that matter.

Let’s divide the mindsets an aspirant must have during the entire phase of preparation and during the exam into two very broad types.

Mindset during the preparation - I Don’t Know Everything” - An aspirant consumes an ocean of information during the entire process of preparation. Large amount of information/knowledge in a short period of time may make a person haughty and rigid to some extent. This nature at times discourages the person to read new things or be open to new ideas/opinions. Having an I don’t know everything attitude makes a person humble and allows her/him to analyse and absorb various perspectives efficiently. Hence an aspirant in the preparation stage should always keep an open mind for reasonable debate and constructive criticism.

Mindset just before the exam and during the exam - I Know Everything” - This attitude brings in confidence and expunge any trace of doubt in you about your capabilities and your preparation till date. Few days before the exam, an aspirant has to stick to the revision plan and cannot and should not do alot in terms of covering new areas of the syllabus. So it’s imperative to bulid confidence in whatever you have prepared for the exam and to convince yourself that this preparation that you have done is what is required to clear the exam.

Power of right mindset at the right time is immense. Embrace it.
