The attempt for Civil service exam and Forest exam are counted separately. Hence, appearing for one does not exhaust your attempt for the other. Even if you have exhausted all your Civil Services Examination attempts, you can appear for Indian Forest Services. They are two different and separate recruitments.
The IFS selection procedure consists of three stages – preliminary, main examination and personality test. The first stage of the examination is common for both the examinations. The prelims is the first stage examination and this is common for both. The application form will have separate columns for CSE and IFoS, which has to be specially filled by the candidates.
Aspirants have to appear for the Civil Services (Preliminary) examination and qualify the same for the second phase of the examination, i.e., IFS (Main Examination). Candidates who qualify in the Civil Services (Preliminary) and meet the eligibility criteria of IFS will be shortlisted for the IFS Main Examination
