Hi, today I am going to tell you about the difference between writing and answering. A lot of people, they write well and write detailed with so much of facts, etc, come back to me and then they tell me that I have written this this this this in this question. But when I look at those things I often ask, ‘did I ask you this?’ If I haven’t asked you may write but you are not answering. So, it is very important that we understand the difference between WRITING and ANSWERING. Writing is what you feel about that topic and then you write but then only if I am asking you from a particular angle. You have to answer on that ANGLE only. If I have asked you a certain thing which is where I expect you to examine it, you can’t DESCRIBE it. If I have asked you to describe it, you can’t DISCUSS it. So, we have to understand the basic difference between these phraseologies, I would like you to be sensitive about them when you are writing answers. In fact, when you prepare, you always prepare on primarily those Describe Angle a WHAT angle but very rarely you would find that the question would be on describe. It is evaluate, say, for example, you are looking into the dimensions of the positivities and negativities of that. They are talking about comment on that, a view, review, opinion then you have to give what you feel about it. But the important thing, they have asked the same question to everybody who is writing this examination. So, don’t write your personal view. You write a view which what they expect from the youth of the country. So, write the view of the average youth of the country that you are a part of. Sometimes, they use the word CRITICAL, sometimes the critical comes with analyze critically evaluate, enumerate critically described. So, whenever the word critical comes, a lot of times we forget who we are, and then we just suddenly become like an editorial writer, sub-editor, and then we become CYNICAL critical. Don’t forget who you are. Even if they are asking you to criticize something. Remember you are the HOPE of the country, so your criticism has to be with a lot of positivities. I suppose I would like to call it as CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM. It can’t be cynical criticism that you can give. So what I was trying to tell you today is that please understand what is the demand of the question in terms of these command words that we have got? Is it narrate? So I should not elucidate. If it is elucidate, I would not account for. If it is account for, I would not do a SKETCH. If it is sketch, I would not elucidate or illustrate for that matter. So, once you are very clear about these command words, your answer would actually go on the same pitch where the demand has been made, and that way you would be able to write an answer which will fetch you great marks. It comes with practice. Learn these KEYWORDS, look at the dictionary meanings of them, and then after that try using it. Use the same theme with changing COMMAND WORDS and show it to your friend. If your friend is able to guess every time that you have described or you have discussed or you have analysed or you have enumerated or you have sketched. If the person starts guessing, you are there. In fact, it is not what you intent for which you get marks, what somebody UNDERSTANDS you get marks for that. So it is very important that you understand the understanding of others by scaling yourself through practise. My best wishes.
