Documents Required For UPSC Prelims & Mains.

Candidates must submit an online application on the official UPSC website since the UPSC civil services examination is divided into the Prelims, Mains, and Interview rounds, following the CSE notifications that the organization makes each year.

Let’s list down all the requirements of the documents for the UPSC preliminary examination and the Mains examination:

Required Documents for the Preliminary Stage

  • A digital photograph of yourself
  • A copy of your scanned signature
  • An official photo identification card issued by the Government

Any other photo ID card issued by the State or Central Government, such as an Aadhaar Card, Voter Card, PAN Card, Passport, or Driver's License. As to the most recent UPSC announcement, "The information of this Photo ID Card would have to be submitted by the Candidate when filling up the Online Application Form." The applicant must submit a scanned copy of the photo identification whose information was submitted online with the application. It is recommended that the applicant bring this photo ID card with them when they take the examination or personality test because it will be utilized for any future referencing.

Required Documents for the Mains Stage

After making your way through the Prelims stage, you will be eligible to appear for the Mains stage. The commission will then release the mains announcement, at which point you must reapply online, this time in order to appear for the Mains exam. The Detailed Application Form, or DAF for short, is the name of this document. This time, you will need to upload scanned versions of the documents listed below to the UPSC website:

  • Age verification is accepted only in the form of a high school diploma or matriculation.
  • A degree certificate issued by the university, or the UPSC has recognized an equivalent certification, as proof of your educational accomplishments.

  • If necessary, a certificate proving OBC, SC, or ST status: Certificate from the district where your parents reside, issued by the district officer, sub-divisional officer, or any other authority authorized by the government to issue such certifications. The applicant's usual district of residence will be considered if both parents are deceased.
  • If relevant, a medical board established by the federal or state governments will issue a certificate of disability.
  • Proof of service, landholding, status, income from various sources, and/or property owned by your parents is required to support an OBC claim for a non-creamy layer if any.

  • Contract with government employees (where applicable): Take an oath to the effect that you have informed your head of department or office in writing that you would be taking the UPSC CSE.

  • The OBC/ST/SC status certificate, the handicap certificate, the J&K domicile certificate, and the certificate for defense personnel all qualify as supporting documents if an age relaxation claim is being made.
